The Eating Matrix
Apr 18, 2023
How we eat is just as, if not more, important than what we eat.
What we often find is that how we do one thing is how we do everything. Take some time to think about this. Does the way you handle food relate to the way you handle other things in your life?
The eating matrix refers to how trying to fit into one-size-fits-all cultural norms or ideals can fuel unhealthy relationships with food, including emotional eating.
There are four common "one-size-fits-all" approaches to eating:
- Extreme - includes rigid rules, labels and all-or-nothing mentality
- Quick Fix - includes eating a very limited variety of foods, "time cures," detoxes and cleanses
- Objective - includes food formulas like "calories in & calories out," calorie restriction, and high-protein/low-carb diets
- Dogmatic - 100% adherence to a diet or nutritional philosophy
Have you used one or all of these throughout your dieting history? I know I have! At one time or another, I have used all of these approaches for weight loss.
Have you used food for a purpose other than nourishment of your body? Which one of these four ways ring true for you?
- For comfort or relief, or to numb or escape
- To gain a sense of control
- To distract ourselves
- To fit in or connect with others
Again, I have used all of these as my purpose with food.
Here are some things that might help you navigate the eating matrix:
- Pay attention to the language you use about food, and about yourself.
- Look at the ways you use food for purposes other than nourishment, with curiosity and without judgment
- Understand how mindset, mindlessness and disconnection can affect your relationship with food.

Remember to...Take Care of You!
As a Functional Diagnostic Nutritional Practitioner, I run functional lab work to help identify HIDDEN stressors and dysfunctions that are downgrading health and creating or contributing toĀ Metabolic Chaosā„¢, which describes what's going on inside that is producing unwanted symptoms.
Once healing opportunities are identified through carefully selected labs and a thorough history, only then can individualized, time-honored natural protocols be recommended that will change how well the body functions. When improvements are made, true healing occurs.
I am opening up 5 coaching opportunities at the end of August, at the lowest cost possible.
I don't want you to miss this healing opportunity.
