Having Healthy Hormones

I'm always in the process of learning something new so that I can help you with your health concerns. I recently went through training with the school of Functional Diagnostic Nutrition to learn more about hormones and how they affect our bodies.

I found some interesting things that I want to share with you.

First, all hormones are derived from three sources:

  • Steroid Hormones found in the adrenal cortex, ovaries, placenta & testes
  • Amine Hormones found in the thyroid & adrenal medula
  • Polypeptide & Protein Hormones found in the pancreas, parathyroid, thyroid & anterior pituitary

An imbalance in our hormones can cause fatigue, brain fog, decreased libido, hair thinning, and a number of other concerns that we might feel on a daily basis.

The #1 thing that you can do to help balance your hormones is to get amazing sleep.

Some additional things that you can do to balance hormones include:

Making sure the minerals in your body are balanced. Herbs are a gentle way to help you do that. The herbal hormone tonic below includes red raspberry to tone and support uterine health, nettle leaf to provide essential minerals like potassium, alfalfa to support and clean the liver, and peppermint to soothe and calm your digestion and nervous system. Make a huge batch and sip throughout the day, diluted or undiluted.

Ingredients:

12 bags red raspberry leaf tea

4 bags organic nettle leaf tea

4 bags organic alfalfa leaf tea

4 bags organic peppermint tea

Boil 8 cups of water and remove from heat. Add tea bags or loose leaf teas to water and allow to steep for 10 minutes. Strain, pour tea into 2 mason jars, and refrigerate.

Healthy hormones also need good digestion. Try this lemon gut shot for great digestion.

Ingredients:

1 whole lemon, peeled, with white pith

2 tsp ground ginger

1 tsp cinnamon

2 tsp ground turmeric

8 oz water

Use a high powered blender to thoroughly blend all ingredients together. Store in a mason jar in the fridge. Shake well before serving each day. Drink 1 oz. on an empty stomach each morning.
