We have both Sympathetic vs. parasympathetic states:

  • Sympathetic (fight or flight) which increase cravings, restlessness & irritability
  • Parasympathetic (rest & digest) – which creates calm, satisfied and grounded

Emotional eating often happens when the sympathetic nervous system is dominant.
