Your Best Year of Health

health May 16, 2023

Have you ever taken a year to be in your best health?

What do you think that year would look like?

How do you think you would feel if you took the time this year to be in the best health of your life?

This challenge came to me as I was working on my own self-improvement. It was part of my coaching course and it made perfect sense to me.

To get started, here is what I have done and what I recommend:

  1. Think about what your health will look like one year from now - May 16th, 2024. What do you want to look like, what do you want to feel like. Be super detailed in your description of what that looks like for you. It's more powerful if you write it down, so give yourself that gift.
  2. Assess your current state. You improve what you measure. Start with documenting your numbers, including your weight, get the blood tests / hair analysis done to see where your current health stands. Take pictures. Just make sure you have a starting point so that when you get to May of 2024, you will be able to celebrate your accomplishments.

Here is a definition of a person in a high state of health by Functional Medicine Dr. Patricia Fitzgerald. "A person in a high state of health is not too fat or too thin, has plenty of energy, sleeps well, digests food comfortably and efficiently, is served by a healthy immune system, and exhibits a general zest for life."

While each person's health is bio-individual, here are points that are important for everyone to keep in mind regarding eating for optimal health:

  • Avoid toxic foods
  • Consume clean, whole foods and pure water
  • Get in touch with real hunger
  • Understand your own body's requirements
  • Eat foods that digest easily and avoid ones that are digestive stressors
  • Eat a wide variety of foods
  • Avoid overeating
  • Limit intake of caffeine and stimulants
  • Choose foods that support balanced blood sugar
  • Practice healthy moderation
  • Incorporate nutrient dense foods into your diet, to get the most mileage from what is eaten

Just paying attention to these few things will change your health, and your life.
