The Power of Purpose: How Meaning in Life Supports Brain Health
May 20, 2025
"When you lose your why, you lose your way." - Friedrich Nietzsche
Have you ever gone through a phase where everything felt heavy - like you were just getting through the day, not really living it?
You're not alone. Many women I work with are trying to juggle careers, family and wellness - and somewhere along the way, they lose touch with why they're doing it all.
That's not just emotionally draining. It's neurologically draining.
The Science of Purpose and the Brain
Research from the field of neuroscience and positive psychology shows that having a sense of purpose is one of the strongest predictors of long-term brain health. Purpose has been linked to:
- Lower stress and cortisol levels
- Improved memory and cognitive resilience
- Reduced risk of depression and anxiety
- Lower inflammation and even longer lifespan
Purpose activates key areas of the brain responsible for decision-making, motivation, and emotional regulation. When you feel like your life has meaning, your brain literally functions better.
What Happens when Purpose is Missing?
When we feel disconnected from meaning, it can show up as:
- Brain fog
- Burnout
- Emotional eating or lack of motivation
- Feelings of being "stuck" or unfulfilled
We often try to fix these issues with new habits or health routines, but unless we reconnect with why we want to feel better, those changes don't last.
3 Ways to Reconnect with Purpose - Starting Today
- Identify What Energizes You - What makes you feel most alive? It could be helping others, creating, teaching, or even being in nature. Take note - and do more of that.
- Reflect on Your Values - Ask yourself: What matters most to me right now? How do I want to feel, and why? Align your daily choices with your core values.
- Do One Meaningful Thing Daily - Purpose doesn't have to be a grand mission. It can be calling a friend, journaling, offering encouragement, or working on a passion project - even for 10 minutes.
Why This Matters for Your Health Journey
When we are stuck in patterns with food, weight, or energy, it's often not about the food at all. It's about unmet emotional needs - and a longing to feel on purpose.
When you reconnect with meaning, your choices begin to reflect self-respect, not self-sabotage.
If you're craving more clarity, energy, and alignment in your health journey, I'd love to help you reconnect with your why.
You were never meant to just get through the day. You were meant to live it - with clarity, intention, and meaning.
Until next time...Take Care of You!
As a Functional Diagnostic Nutritional Practitioner, I run functional lab work to help identify HIDDEN stressors and dysfunctions that are downgrading health and creating or contributing toĀ Metabolic Chaosā„¢, which describes what's going on inside that is producing unwanted symptoms.
Once healing opportunities are identified through carefully selected labs and a thorough history, only then can individualized, time-honored natural protocols be recommended that will change how well the body functions. When improvements are made, true healing occurs.
I am opening up 5 coaching opportunities at the end of August, at the lowest cost possible.
I don't want you to miss this healing opportunity.
